INTRODUCTION TO EZRA
Ezra is the author of this book bearing his name. There is little known about him. He was a Jewish exile in Babylon, perhaps of a priestly decent. (7:1-6) He was a ready scribe in the Law of Moses. He returned to Jerusalem with a large group of Jews. The tripe from Babylon to Jerusalem was long and dangerous, but his faith was strong in the Lord his God. His purpose was to rebuild the temple. There are several things he is credited with starting back of the Jews to worship the Lord their God. This tells us again as in the book of Nehemiah, that God can use any one to do the work of the Lord. Notice that this book does not start out telling anything about Ezra. Ezra and the people was obedient to obey the Lord no matter what they may face. This book shows the power of the Word of God in human life. The Word is called “The Word of the Lord, Law of Moses, Commandments, and the Law of the Lord. The altar was rebuilt and worship restored (3:1-6). The temple is finished and dedicated and many ancient rites were restored. Ezra prayed and confessed the sins of the people putting himself with them. We as Christians need this type of attitude. Just as Job said, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” There will be hard times serving the Lord, but He is with us and will take us through trials and deep valleys. His Word and the Holy Spirit will guide us all the way home to heaven. Dare to do a work for the LORD. He will protect and help you live for Him.
