Ezekiel
“God Strengthens”
Ezekiel had been carried to Babylon with one of the earlier groups. He was a priest. Ezekiel preached to the Jews in captivity, while Jeremiah preached to those in Palestine. His prophecy is filled with symbolism and he was called the son of man. The book contains a lot of imagery, some which are hard to interpret. But many of his visions and teaching are clear and has high value to them. “Thus saith Jehovah” is a phrase that is used throughout the book. You will see events such as the departure of the glory of the Lord from the temple (10:16-18; 11:23) and the fall of Jerusalem (33:21). The book opens with a vision of God and the call of Ezekiel (1:3). We see many warnings that Israel must heed and the cry of the spiritual watchman. They were to repent of their sin (chapter 33). Notice the life giving water coming from the sanctuary (chapter 47). Also see Rev. 22:1-2. Notice the phrase “ye shall know that I am the Lord”.
We see our personal responsibility. (Chapter 18:20-32). Chapter 37 is sometimes called the revival chapter. It is the valley of dry bones. When one repents, trusting Jesus as Lord and Saviour, new life is breathed into that person. The chapter that is used a lot about prophesy is chapter 38. “I am Jehovah” is another key phrase in this book. No matter how bad it may look, God is in control and will deliver His people. See the new heart in chapter 11:19 and 36:25-28.
