INTRODUCTION TO ISAIAH
The book of Isaiah is called “The Little Bible”; the gospel of the Old Testament. It has beautiful poetry, rhythm, and imagery. In this book, you see the supreme governor, the virgin-born Son of God; the death of Christ and it even names a ruler, Cyrus, years before he was born. Isaiah saw the Lord setting upon a throne, high and lifted up. Isaiah links the Lion of Judah to the meek and lowly Lamb of God. Isaiah 61:1-3 tells us of the ministry of Christ and part of these verses are quoted by Christ in the synagogue in Nazareth. Jesus telling those present, “This day is the scripture fulfilled in your ears.” The Lord knows all His sheep by name and will care for them. He knows the beginning and the end and all that is between. Truly the book of Isaiah, long before it happens, tells us of Christ, the lamb of God that died and rose again for the sins of the whole world. Even Isaiah’s name means “Jehovah Saves”. In chapter 63 we read of Christ’s return to earth, this time as judge and deliverer. We don’t have to take vengeance on those who have done the believer wrong. He will “trodden the wine press alone.” Then will He give eternal blessings for the redeemed. Praise the Lord. He has the power to save whosoever will that comes to Him for salvation. Keep in mind His government is not material in character, but it delivers the sinner into a saint. He opens blind eyes, gives pardon, purity, peace, and keeps His pledge (Word) by His perfect authority.
